The Rector of The Film School has gone to Ukraine

The Rector of The Icelandic Film School, Börkur Gunnarsson, has gone to Ukraine to complete a documentary about the cultural changes taking place in the country at the moment

In the meantime, Hlín Jóhannesdóttir, producer and personnel director of IFS, will perform the rector's duties. But in recent months she has been busy following up on her latest movie, "Driving mum", which Hilmar Oddsson, director of IFS Directing department, wrote and directed and which has been a hit in Iceland and elsewhere.

Börkur Gunnarsson spent six weeks in Ukraine a year ago together with Valur Gunnarsson, where they reported news for RÚV and Börkur laid the foundation for a documentary that he is now planning to complete. They are now back together in Ukraine. Börkur began his journalistic career during the Balkan wars in the 1990s and has worked in conflict zones such as Afghanistan and Iraq.

Börkur started the tour by showing his first film, the Czech film "Silný kafe", to a full house at a film festival in Kosice, Slovakia, before crossing the border to Ukraine to film for the documentary.

We of course wish them the best on their journey.
