Graduation Winter 2022 - Runólfur Gylfason, Screenwriting and Directing

Runólfur Gylfason graduates from Screenwriting and Directing with his film "Praised be the Lord"

In the aftermath of war after the fall of society, a family of three lives in a bunker. Kolfinna, a single mother, provides for and forbids her children to step outside their home. Just before Christmas, Kolfinna is seriously injured, so her son Ragnar decides to take matters into his own hands to save Christmas for his little sister

What is the first movie experience you remember?

My first significant movie experience was in the old bowling hall, a short scene from a Japanese cartoon played on the alternate score screens and I was totally mesmerized. After that I had to figure out what the movie was and movies then became the most important part of my life. Years later I found out what the movie was called and to this day "Princess Mononoke" is my favorite movie.

What fascinates you about filmmaking?

It's moments like I mentioned that are so fascinating about filmmaking, being able to catch a person in an instant and make them experience something enormous in a split second.

Why did you choose your  department?

I chose Screenwriting and Directing because I like to tell stories and like when I was little, I want to evoke the same feelings of wonder that I felt then, I want to share my experiences with the world.

Did anything particularly surprise you in the study?

I was extremely surprised that you meet a lot of people and future friends at school, I could not be more grateful for the program and the people I have met.

So what does the future look like?

There is only one thing after graduation… keep writing and telling stories, make endless movies.
