Antoníus Freyr Antoníusson - Directing and Producing

Antoníus Freyr will be graduating from Directing and Producing with his film "Major men"

Major Men

After a birthday party gets out of hand and ends in accidental homicide, two best friends, weed smokers and aspiring drug dealers, join forces to get rid of the evidence. But a simple corpse disposal quickly turns into a more complicated problem that leads the friends into all sorts of trouble.

What is the first movie experience you remember?

The first movie that is really burned into my memory is the Norwegian stop-motion animation "Flåklypa Grand Prix" by Ivo Caprino from 1975. I was 3 or 4 years old when I got it on VHS and watched it non-stop as a child.

What fascinates you about filmmaking?

There are many things that fascinate me about filmmaking, but mostly it's the collaboration. Working in a group with creative people towards a common goal. And that filmmaking is an industry that is very young and still evolving. Always new challenges and no day is the same, which is very exciting.

Why did you choose your department?

Sounded most appropriate to me. I've always been fascinated by being at the forefront, planning and creating, and this department sounded like a good mix of the artistic side and the "business" side of filmmaking. Producing is very practical and the directing fulfilled the creative need. So I don't regret the choice.

Did anything particularly surprise you in your studies?

How much I learned about other aspects of filmmaking than just those related to my department. You get a lot of opportunities to learn about the technical side, camera, lighting and post-production, which is very useful.

And what does the future look like?

The future is just bright. The film industry is booming here in Iceland as well as elsewhere in the world, and that should hopefully lead to various opportunities for young filmmakers.
