Anna Birna Jakobsdóttir - Directing and Producing

Anna Birna will graduate from Directing and Producing on May 27th with her film "Dancing on Roses"

Dancing on roses is a beautiful and funny story about Baldur, who takes a job as a helper for Máni, a boy who is autistic. Máni has one dream, which is to compete in the biggest dance competition in the country. This seems impossible as Máni cannot dance and his mother wants to protect him too much from the world. Baldur helps Máni make his dream come true, he gets his friend to help him prepare Máni for the competition and teach him to dance. They then end up going to the competition where they put on an amazing dance performance.

-What is the first movie experience you remember?

Filmmaking was introduced to my elementary school in the fourth grade. There we got an ipad and we were supposed to go out and shoot short films. There we were taught the line, setting up Ping pong and other things that you never really understood until you attended The Film School. This was the first introduction to filmmaking. Before that, I didn't watch a lot of movies since I had so few. However, Pippi Longstocking was often chosen :)

-What fascinates you about filmmaking?

I look at filmmaking as a fun job, I think that making movies should be fun, not too much stress as it often happens. We are making content to entertain the viewer.

-Why did you choose Directing and Producing?

I chose producing and directing as it was the most exciting for me. The course appealed to me more and I wanted to know more about the production.

-And what does the future look like?

Ugh, it's hard to say. I got pregnant during my second year at school and a lot changed during that time. However, I decided to finish school and brought my 9-day-old child to school. It went incredibly well with him as I finished the course and now the question is what will happen next. One's attitude changes a little after one has children. I want to make a movie, but when I have a proper handle on it.
