The Icelandic Film School

Student association

// The Student Association

Kinema is the student association of the Icelandic Film School and was founded by the students in the fall of 2009. The association organizes numerous events, including beer nights where students from different departmentsh have the opportunity to become better acquainted. An annual "prom" is organized by Kinema. Awards are given according to the tradition of film festivals, and the best picture of the year chosen. This is all mainly for fun but also to encourage students to put extra effort into their films.

Life at school is diverse and fun. Here we have a group of people of all ages and experiences sharing a common love of filmmaking, but often in different ways. There is a lot of collaboration between departments, which is both helpful and nourishing. This gives us a chance to get to become better acquainted with the students better and obtain knowledge in different areas of filmmaking. The collaboration between students and teachers is fantastic. Students see teachers as mentors and the teachers are at the same time very willing to help and share their knowledge. The education at the school is of the highest caliber, focused and demanding. Each day goes by very fast and sometimes you will find people working late into the night, which only shows that access to the school is unlimited.

At the Icelandic Film School there is a spirit of friendship all around, and collaboration and helpfulness are some of the keywords of the students, both within the walls of the school and in the harsh outside world of filmmaking.
