// The Icelandic Film school accepted into CILECT
10.05.11
The Icelandic Film School has become a candidate member of CILECT - The International Association of Film and Television Schools. The association, with its main headquarters located in Paris, was founded in Cannes, the year 1955. It includes members such as the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, Columbia University in New York, La Fémis in Paris, HFF in München, The Danish Film School in Copenhagen, The PWSFTviT of Lods in Poland and the National Film and Television School in London. Over 200 film schools are members, from all continents of the world.
The schools came to a unanimous decision to accept The Icelandic Film School as a member, after the association's thorough review of The Icelandic Film School. The review was mostly executed by Nik Powell, who is the principal of the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield in London and an awarded film producer. Powell recently visited The Icelandic Film School, researched the curriculum, the school rules and the structure of its studies, while he also went over the school's inner work. He looked at student projects, spoke to students and teachers from all of the school's departments and had a meeting with the school board. To cut a long story short, the school received the "Highest recommendation" in Nik Powell's review. After a vote had been passed by members of the association, this was later confirmed when CILECT's administration announced to the board of The Icelandic Film School that the Icelandic school was welcome to join the company of the world's top film schools. The candidate membership will run its course in May 2012 when the school will be offered full membership to the association at their main conference in Cape Town.
