On behalf of the Icelandic Film School I'd like to welcome you to our new website, especially those of you who are considering studying with us. We hope that you'll find answers here to many of the questions that arise when considering your educational prospects.

From the silent era onward, movies have strived to capture the attention of the audience and guide them through a world of adventure so that they experience something unique, something achieved only through the magic of movies. They accomplish this with help from other art forms, and through the use of technology, which is constantly changing. It so happens that these technical aspects can be taught, and mastered. And this is where film schools come in.

Since its founding in 1992, the Icelandic Film School has grown from a basic two-month filmmaking course into a demanding two-year diploma program. And now the school has reached a new milestone - we're transitioning toward university accreditation and will eventually offer, in addition to our current program, a three-year BA and even a graduate program. This transition will also result in closer collaboration with other educational and cultural institutions. As if this weren't enough, we're pleased to announce the debut of our International Program, a full course of study in English for foreign students.

Here at the Icelandic Film School we're developing a magnificent film center, a place of lofty goals and huge dreams. From our unique vantage point between North America and Europe, we absorb the best filmmaking traditions from both sides of the Atlantic. Here you'll meet like minds, creative individuals with whom you'll form lifelong bonds. You'll find that the demands of the school are great, but so are the rewards. The more you contribute while you're here, the more likely you'll be to grasp the magic inherent in telling a good story, the magic of movies, and the ability to lead us into the unique landscape of your dreams.

After all, in case I haven't mentioned it yet, this school is a place where magic happens.
